Volunteers make a lasting difference

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Amara!

You can make a profound impact on the lives of our community’s vulnerable children. As an Amara volunteer, your skills and experiences will help us meet the needs of our kids and families every day. Amara offers a variety of different volunteer opportunities and we are dedicated to providing child-focused training and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role.

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, we ask that all regular Amara volunteers go through our application and screening process. We strive to make this process as simple as possible and our volunteer coordinator is always available to help guide you through it.

New volunteer opportunity: Pierce County Emergency Sanctuary

We are seeking volunteers to serve our new Pierce County Sanctuary, located in Tacoma. Attend a Volunteer Information Meeting or contact us at to learn more about getting involved.

Volunteer as an individual.

Our Emergency Sanctuary Program needs volunteer support in order to provide kids with the care they deserve. You can make a profound difference in the lives of our community’s children by joining us for at least one volunteer shift per month.

Volunteers in our sanctuary program:

  • Play games
  • Go on field trips
  • Help prepare meals
  • Help keep house
  • Color, paint, and craft
  • Read bedtime stories

All volunteers are provided with extensive training and are supported by onsite staff.

We operate two locations: Our Grandese’s Place sanctuary is located in Seattle, and our new Pierce County Sanctuary is located in Tacoma. We are seeking volunteers to serve this new Sanctuary – attend a Volunteer Information Meeting to learn more about getting involved.

Childcare volunteers play a critical role in allowing our families time to focus on learning, connecting with each other, and supporting each other. Childcare volunteers help set up and tear down the meeting area and spend time during the support group playing with the children of group attendees. Kids attending childcare range from newborn to five years old.

  • PEPS Network group meetings
  • Support group meetings
  • Amara family trainings
  • Post-Adoption program events

We ask Family Support Group Childcare volunteers to commit to a regular, ongoing volunteer schedule. Attend a Volunteer Information Meeting to learn more about getting involved.

Administrative Support volunteers fill a variety of roles that help Amara continue to offer professional, high quality services. Individual volunteers interested in longer term commitments will be trained to take on more complex tasks.

Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at to learn more about this opportunity.

Amara offers a variety of different internship experiences to help you learn more about nonprofit operations, client services, donor relations, communications, event planning, and more.
